Understanding disordered eating

Disordered eating can deeply affect both your mental and physical health. Many of us find ourselves struggling with difficult thoughts and behaviours around food, leading to stress, anxiety, and a complicated relationship with eating and body image. Whether this has been a long-term struggle or something new, understanding and addressing these feelings is the first step toward a healthier, more balanced life.

From a young age, many of us start to worry about body size and self-worth. It's heartbreaking to know that children as young as 5 express concerns about their weight, and the average girl begins her first diet at just 9 years old. These early experiences can set the stage for lifelong struggles with disordered eating.

It's common to feel trapped in cycles of restrictive eating, emotional eating, or obsessive thoughts about food and weight. You might find yourself only using specific utensils, feeling anxious about eating in social situations, or following strict food and eating rules. These behaviors, though subtle, can leave you feeling exhausted, isolated, and frustrated. Physical symptoms like digestive issues, fatigue, and weight fluctuations add to the burden.

Even with conversations about healthy eating and body positivity, many still feel stuck in a cycle of dieting and self-criticism. Addressing these patterns is crucial for improving your quality of life. By nurturing healthier eating habits and fostering a compassionate relationship with your body, you can break free from these damaging cycles and discover a more joyful and balanced way of living.

How I Can Help

Our coaching journey begins with an open conversation about your experiences with food and body image. We'll identify the specific challenges you face and understand their impact on your life. This process can feel vulnerable, but I'm here to support you every step of the way.

Together, we'll set clear, manageable goals to help you build a healthier relationship with food, eating and the way that you view bodies. My approach provides compassionate guidance, empowering you to make lasting changes that enhance your happiness and overall well-being.

It's important to note that this coaching is designed to support disordered eating habits and is not a substitute for clinical eating disorder services. While I do have experience in specialised clinical eating disorder services and genuinely want to help, if I believe you would be better served by a specialised eating disorder service at this time, I will encourage you to seek that support to ensure you receive the best possible care.
